I grew up in a small town about an hour north of Detroit, MI. My father, Brett Ray, is a nationally renowned evangelist and teacher. I grew up traveling with my dad, going from summer camp to summer camp hearing him challenge middle school students to walk with Jesus. From a very young age I wanted to do what my daddy did.
I graduated with a Communication degree from Oakland University. While a student at Oakland, I participated in several campus ministries. During the summers I would work as a camp counselor at camp Lurecrest located in North Carolina. It was in my college years that I started to feel the Lord’s call into ministry. It was in this time that I began to speak for summer camps and teach children's ministry for my home church.
Although I had grown up in a loving christain home, and had grown up listening to my dad teach the Bible, I realized that I didn’t know the Bible myself. I knew that if I was going to go into ministry I had to dedicate time to study it for myself. Because of this, I decided to attend the Emmaus School of Biblical Studies.
I moved to florida to attend the bible school, thinking that I was there simply to obtain the right Bible knowledge. I thought that I was there simply to learn about the Bible. In actuality, God was working inside of me in that year. Weeding out the broken parts of my heart and teaching me what it looked like to follow Jesus with everything that I have. That year, I fell in love with the Bible, and its power to change lives and transform people to look more like Jesus.
I knew that I wanted to help other students of God's word experience the same change that I experienced when I learned how to study the Bible.
While working for in my first year on staff at Emmaus, I meet my wife Lauren. We now live in the greater Orlando Area.
